To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face
and their contribution to sustainable development, the United Nations
designated 20 May as World Bee Day.

Two years ago, the United Nations approved Slovenia’s proposal to proclaim 20 May as World Bee Day. This day is also a birthday of Anton Janša (1734–1773), the pioneer of modern beekeeping and one of the greatest experts on bees.

The purpose of the international day is to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem and an important action alert to preserve and protect them. This year, special focus is on beekeeping for women empowerment.
